AOA Everyone:
I am really happy to receive this email from Asif Bhai and for briefly going over the sibling family structure of my mother, Shamim Fatima Zafar, the eldest of her siblings and a mother to all of her and the sibling kids. I have absolutely no hesitation in saying that she considered (and told me that she believed in it) that for her all children of the family, including all of you out there and all those who have still not found the pleasures of reconnecting with the Kunba, as her children. And time and again she proved that. We have had the pleasure of hosting Aslam Bhai, Asif Bhai, Shahid Bhai for variable lengths and also the rest of you off and on. Our small little flat (apt) in Saddar (Karachi) hosted many, and not just members of the immediate family. Nizam Mamu's children would visit us often and he would drop them in on his way in to the clinic at Anklesaria and would pick them up on his way back. Nasir particularly liked Baji's Shami Kebabs and she would often ensure that they were available when he visited. And we have thrown so much stuff on the passersby down on the road that it is unbelievable now. Khalida would visit us from St. Joseph's college and all the kids were so welcome by Abba and Baji. Abba was strict with us and never to any of the cousin kids (to the best of my recollection)- he had a special place for Asif Bhai who cared for him much when he had heart ailment I believe. Indeed all our departed parents are in heaven (inshaAllah) and all of you were children to baji. I have landed into trouble many times because of being naughty to some of you and baji's statement was simple "don't expect me to give you any favorable treatment when it comes to any of my family children". She lived that statement to the very end. Najma Apa (Naseem Khala's eldest daughter) and Sohaila Khala both were special to baji. I can go on and on. I have never remembered baji (with tears in my eyes) as I have done today- thank you Asif Bhai. Even these feelings and tears have made all this effort worthwhile.
